The 2014 Ram 1500 is quite amazing, and auto critics across the industry have really been taking notice! For the second year in a row, the superbly capable pickup has been named Motor Trend Truck of the Year.
The Ram 1500 was chosen from a whole host of competitors and managed to hold its own, despite that it's not new to the market. However, the 1500 did receive a new diesel engine this year: the first to be available in a light-duty pickup truck in many years. Motor Trend writes, "This isn't just a new engine. This is, strictly speaking, a different technology for the segment."1
The new diesel is paired with an eight-speed transmission and achieves around a combined 21 mpg in city/ highway driving.
In addition to the new diesel engine, editors at the publication also pointed out the truck's optional air suspension and special touches like real wood in the luxurious Laramie Longhorn model.
The nine trucks tested for the "Truck of the Year" designation were put through the ringer in Uvalde, Texas- the heart of truck country.
